Paws and Patriotism: Including Your Furry Friends in the Festivities

Celebrating patriotic holidays often involves enjoying the outdoors and connecting with loved ones—and that includes the four-legged ones! Your pets are part of the family, so why not let them join in the fun? With a little planning, you can celebrate in a way that’s festive, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. Here are some creative and thoughtful ways to include your furry friends in your holiday plans and show some pet friendly patriotism.
1. Dress your pets in patriotic pet wear
Your adorable pet will be the star of the party sporting red, white and blue bandanas and bow ties, Uncle Sam top hats, American flag inspired vests and shirts, patriotic dresses and tutu skirts. The options are endless! Make sure anything you use is breathable and doesn’t restrict movement or vision.

2. Make your BBQ Pet Friendly
Prepare some pet-safe treats like frozen banana slices or even pet popsicles. Never feed them bones, grapes, chocolate, onions, or anything seasoned heavily. Make sure they have plenty of water.
3. Participate in a Patriotic Pet Parade
If your town has a pet parade, dress your dog up and show them off. If your dog is social and crowds don’t stress them out, bring them to the local festival. Be sure to bring water, keep them leashed, and avoid hot pavement.

4. Keep Pets Calm During Fireworks
If your celebration includes fireworks, make a plan to keep your pet calm. Set up a quiet space indoors with their favorite bed and toys. Play soft music or white noise to mask the sound, and consider calming treats or anxiety vests if needed. Keep ID tags and microchips up-to-date in case your pet gets startled and runs.

With a little creativity and care, your pet can be part of a meaningful and memorable day. Be sure to capture some photos of you and your pet enjoying the festivities!
